BarundhiBaba Amar Singh Ji was born on 1st November, 1942 at Chakar Village, in the District of Ludhiana, Punjab, India. His father was Sardar Bakhtawar Singh and his mother was Mata Bhagwan Kaur. He was originally named as Sarup Singh but after partaking “Amrit” the “Panj Piaraes” changed it to Amar Singh.

He was eight years old when his parents died. After which he started to visit Nanaksar, Kalera, with his paternal uncle. He studied Punjabi up to the tenth “Poathi” from Bhai Lal Singh and later at the age of twelve he moved permanently to Nanaksar.

Here, Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji, gave him the duty of reciting the “Sukhmani Sahib Path”.  Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji later sent him to Moga for harmonium and “tabla” training.  There, for two years under the guidance of Giani Kehar Singh who was a very proficient player of both these musical instruments he learned to play the harmonium and do kirtan.

Under the tutelage of Bhai Jai Ram Singh at Amritsar, he received further training in the singing and the delivery of hymns.

Baba Amar Singh Ji followed Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji to various parts of India preaching Sikhism, baptising devotees and to spread the message of Universal Brotherhood.  He visited places like Calcutta, Ranchi, Patna, Tata Nagar and Delhi.BarundhiAnimalRescue

At the India-Bangladesh border, he met some people and through his preaching he baptized 350 Bengalis into the Sikh faith. Upon his return from Calcutta he spent two months in Rajinder Nagar area of Delhi.  Sant Baba Isher Singh allowed Amar Singh Ji to remain in Delhi for a year for further training in the singing of hymns in “ragas” form under Sardar Avatar Singh who was a music teacher at Khalsa College, Dev Nagar Delhi.

Baba Amar Singh Ji stayed at Nanaksar for nearly 14 years at the service of Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji.  Upon the demise of Baba Isher Singh Ji, his chief personal attendant, Bhai Sadhu Singh Ji sent Baba Amar Singh Ji to Barundi, the maternal village of Baba Isher Singh Ji to perform continuous singing of the Sikh holy hymns.  At the request of the devotees there and the adjoining villages, they compelled Baba Amar Singh Ji to remain at Barundi to carry on with his preaching of Sikhism.

Chakhar CollegeFrom then onwards, Baba Amar Singh Ji started the “Parchar” - preaching the Sikh religion, singing of the holy hymns, baptising devotees and starting educational institutions in various parts of the world.  In 1972, upon the request of the devotees of Dunstal Road, Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom, a house was purchased to start a Gurdwara.  At that time nobody could ever dream of building a new Gurdwara, costing over £100,000 on that time. The land next to this place was also purchased without bank loans.  The Sangat and volunteers of the Gurdwara supported all this work.

At this time Baba Ji’s work went from strength to strength, his preaching’s were welcomed and demands grew from the Sikh Sangat from all over the world for him to open Gurdwaras and schools to provide free and affordable education for the poor.  This he is still doing to this day.
